My dear friends and relatives,
While
preparing for this Eulogy, I found from the Internet that the anagram of MOTHER
IN LAW is WOMAN HITLER.
What this means is that the 11 alphabets that spelled M O T H E R I N L A W can
be re-arranged to form the words WOMAN HITLER.
But
my mother in law whom I called simply Mother was never dictatorial or difficult.
She was such a gentle lady that I have not seen her losing her temper ever since
I married her daughter in 1975.
It is a fact that I got along better with my mother in law than with my wife
because Madam Chua and I had never quarrelled throughout the 37 years of our
relationship.
Thank
you Mother for your gentleness.
I
still remember my first date with her daughter some forty odds years ago.
In
order to gain favor from Kim Lan's parents, I invested in my first packet of the
famous char kway teow from Cuppage car park for her supper.
In exchange of these suppers, I was amply rewarded with delicious Nonya fares
such as pontehs, pong tahu, laksa and curry puffs among many others.
I can
safely say that had my mother in law opened a restaurant, the business would be
a roaring success.
Besides her culinary skills, I truly believe that it was the
love that she put into the preparations of the countless lunches and dinners
that made her dishes so special.
As
the saying goes, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
Now you know
the reason why I married her daughter, Kim Lan.
Thank
you Mother for your untiring love.
One
last thing that I wish to share of this wonderful lady was her simple faith in
God.
Since she became a Christian in the year 2000, she prayed regularly to
God for the well beings of her loved ones.
I felt ashamed whenever I realized that I was not as fervent as she was in our
prayer life.
I
believe that God answers prayers and I also believe that my mother in law's
unceasing prayers had made a difference in the smooth sailings of her
loved ones in the stormy sea of daily living.
Thank
you Mother for your faithfulness in your prayers to God who brings calm and
comfort to our lives.
Today
is Valentine Day and many people would want to be with their loved ones.
Although we can no longer celebrate happy occasions like this
in person with you, you will
always be fondly remembered by many of us.
This is just a temporary good bye for
we know that we will meet again when the time comes for us to meet our Lord and
Saviour.
Thank
you Mother, once again for your gentleness, your untiring love and your
faithfulness in God.
The Eulogy was
delivered on 14 Feb 2012 at Hall 1, Mandai Crematorium.
