Vengeance Begets Vengeance

When I read about yet another terrorist attack, I wonder why God allows those who represent evil to keep having their ways?

When the world governments seemingly unable to stop the madness from occurring, what should be our responses as individuals?

The bad news is that there is very little that we can do as individuals except to be more vigilant in our lookout for signs of trouble.
The good news is that more are searching for and turning to God for the answer, especially during this time of helplessness.

To me, Romans 12:19-21 appears to be the best Biblical answer to what is happening and what is to come in this age of terrorism.

The Chinese saying：冤冤相报何时了，得饶人处且饶人 which is translated as "Vengeance begets never ending vengeance, where it is possible to let people off, one should spare them" is another answer for all sides to ponder on.

I know that it's easier said than done especially for the many who are affected directly.
Other than praying to God for His grace and mercy and continue to support those who work for peace, is there a better response to the worsening situation that is beyond human intervention?

Someone told me that the Bible taught revenge by mentioning the verse "An eye for an eye..." somewhere in the Bible.

The verse in question can be found in Matthew 5:38 "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth" taught by Jesus and in Exodus 21:24 of the Old Testament which was intended to attain equal and consistent justice and to limit vengeful retaliation.

It is dangerous to just pick a verse and come to a wrong conclusion without understanding the context.

On the contrary, the Bible teaches love, generosity and forgiveness.

Here is the context of Matthew 5:38-48
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

I must admit that it is not always easy to do the right things.
These verses call for our humble response, for our faith in God and to trust Him to fulfill the final justice.
